Agent-Judged Contest Is Now Open for Submission!

Agent Natalie Fischer Lakosil from the Bradford Literary Agency will be judging the contest, which opens at 9 am EST on Monday, January 30th.

The contest entry window is 24 hours and will end at 9:00 am Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, January 31st.

This contest is open to the following genres:

Commercial fiction, with an emphasis in children’s literature (from picture book to teen), romance (contemporary, paranormal and historical), and upmarket women’s fiction. Specific likes within those genres include historical, multi-cultural, paranormal, sci-fi/fantasy, gritty, thrilling and darker contemporary novels, and middle grade with heart.

Ms. Lakosil wants to see the first 100 words (plus or minus 1/2 sentence--don't just cut it off mid sentence) of COMPLETED novels and a one sentence logline. There is a limit to only ONE entry.

Submissions must be made via our online submission form. (A free QueryTracker.net membership is necessary to use the form and can be accessed from the form page.) Only entries received through the online form will be accepted. Entries emailed directly to the agent or agency will be disqualified. Any entries with logline longer than a single sentence or with an opening longer than 100 words (it can be less than that, but no more than a few extra words over) will be disqualified.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them in comments!

Best of luck to everyone and special thanks to Ms. Lakosil for judging!

Thanks so much for hosting this contest. It's always exciting when picture book writers are invited to join in.

Good luck to everyone who enters. :)

I was curious what the prize is for the contest and when winners will be announced. Thanks for a great opportunity!

My MS has a prologue. Should I use the first 100 words from the prologue or from chapter one?

Silly me messed up my email address 'cause my computer offered to auto-fill it but didn't do it correctly--it doesn't have the (at)gmail(dot)com. Will this be a serious problem? <_<

This is awesome! Thank you Query Tracker and Ms. Lakosil for hosting this contest. Is there an estimated time of when the winners will be announced?

Thanks for this opportunity QT and Ms. Lakosil!

Since my submission is a picture book, I'm wondering if illustration notes count toward word count in this contest or not. Should I just omit them?

Every time I hit the "submit" button it tells me that I need to sign in to Query Tracker (even though I already have). Help! I've tried like four times and I'm afraid I'm either entering over and over again or it isn't going through at all!

Okay, I finally got the message that it was received. If it was received more than once, can you delete the multiple entries? I wasn't meaning to be a pest! : )

This is a great contest. I submitted my YA Fantasy. I was in the process of self-publishing, but it hasn't released yet. I hope that the entry is still welcomed in the contest! :)

Glee, can't wait to see the winners.

To everyone who's entering: Good Luck! ^_^

*sigh* I think I sent the long logline by accident.

Sorry by accident my entry was submitted incorrectly with only the title/genre filled out. Can you delete it so I can enter it with all my information. PB called Five Foods before Bed. Thanks

illustrationjunky, you can resubmit now.

I don't have a time frame yet for when Ms Lakosil will have the results, other than mid-February. She's current away and won't be able to pick a winner until she returns.

The prizes have yet to be determined.

A Pen in Neverland: She would only want to see the text for the story. Please omit all illustration notes.

Illustration Junky: please email me the missing information. My email address is in the side bar.

If there are multiple submissions of the same entry, don't worry, we will delete the extra ones.

Illustration junky: you can ignore my previous comment. :)
