Some people consider Goodreads an essential place to connect with readers. I haven't done well in managing to learn my way around that community, but that's my problem.

Amanda Hocking credits a lot of her rather phenomenal success to her extensive social networking. I am not all that good at it, but I keep trying.

I enjoy blogging but facebook--not much. I do it anyway, just without much in the way of enjoyment.J. R. I really enjoy the friendships I've developed in the blogging community and have let some of them flow over into my facebook friendships. I agree that you can let it take up too much of your time. I tend to read blogs at night when we are watching tv.Sharon K. Facebook...I have both Facebook and multiple blogs.

Facebook is basically my private sanctuary so it's only populated with people I know and trust.

Blogging on the other hand is where I have the most fun, because that's where I finally established what little reputation I developed from the chat rooms.

I moderate my blogs, due to the simple fact that I was stalked, harassed and trolled unmercilessly in the chat rooms, and quite a few times those folks followed me over to my blogs.

Don't do Twitter because I would get into a world of trouble due to the type of info I probably would post (state guv'ment employee).G. Kind of like IMing, but faster. Definitely not so good over the course of the day!

I agree, Stephsco. Twitter is awesome for sharing links and connecting with professionals in ways you couldn't otherwise. Even though I mainly lurk, I've still learned a lot this way.

I agree, Anne. The FB elves drive me crazy, and I might eventually leave FB because of them. There are so many good places to be, that it *is* important to use what works, get rid of what doesn't or what takes away from writing time. :DDanyelle L.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10366276085080565870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7454222325290313520.post-82638456260664729762011-03-07T14:45:21.060-05:002011-03-07T14:45:21.060-05:00I love blogging because we can have real communica...I love blogging because we can have real communication. Twitter is growing on me. It's very convenient for a lot of stuff, especially breaking news. Facebook is cumbersome and I don't like the adversarial nature of the FB elves constantly trying to invade your privacy and give up the names and addresses of your friends. Haven't tried Tumblr, and I've subscribed to a few of those Paper.li things, but unsubscribed because my inbox was filling up and I didn't have time to read them all.

I used to try to follow Goodreads and RedRoom and Absolute Write and about 6 others, but I had to abandon them in favor of actually writing fiction.Anne R. I love being able to follow information fast in the publishing industry, plus other news. It's so easy. Blogs will always have a special place for me, but being able to quickly link via Twitter is downright cool.Stephscohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06328839483008086049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7454222325290313520.post-72205750323877389512011-03-07T12:57:29.978-05:002011-03-07T12:57:29.978-05:00It's a double edged sword, isn't it? I don't consider it a great place for conversations, and just skip any tweets I can see are part of a conversation between others. I like the way my husband uses Twitter, almost like a rapid fire news feed on subjects that interest him. Of course, he doesn't ever tweet. So, I try to read it like he does, just get the gist of what's going on with people without a lot of response to it, and also post some tweets of my own that I think are semi-interesting. Okay, sorry for the long comment! It's a great post.Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01445455787485222068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7454222325290313520.post-88646716525425711202011-03-07T11:59:33.442-05:002011-03-07T11:59:33.442-05:00Totally agree, Stina. :D Definitely not for everyo...Totally agree, Stina. :D Definitely not for everyone--and not necessary for success (Hunger Games)--but wonderful for forging friendships. :)

*waves to Wendy* You are very wise, and the term kudzu is dead on.
